Magic Hour takes it name from a fleeting moment before sunset, when the world seems to be infused with an otherworldly glow. Just as the magic hour blurs the line between day and night, this exhibition blurs the boundaries between cultures. Through the works of two young Japanese artists and a mix of Los Angeles-based ceramicists, Magic Hour created a space for dialogue and connection, illuminating the power of art to bridge divides and bring us all together.
Magic hourは、世界が別世界の輝きに包まれるような、日没前のつかの間の瞬間に由来する。magic hourが昼と夜の境界線を曖昧にするように、この展覧会も文化の境界線を曖昧にする。二人の若い日本人アーティストと、ロサンゼルスを拠点に活動する陶芸家たちの作品を通して、マジックアワーは対話とつながりの場を創り出し、アートが隔たりを埋め、私たちすべてをひとつにする力を照らし出した。

Saori Kunihiro
Trained in calligraphy since the age of six, Saori Kunihiro is known for creating conceptual paintings in the form of hanging scrolls - taught by a third-generation scroll maker - to provoke the outdated traditions in Japan. By reclaiming the narrative that outdated traditions should be turned upside down, she invites viewers to question their own beliefs and traditions and why they follow them. Saori has been in many traditional calligraphy exhibitions and has been a part of the “ART SHODO FESTA 2020” in Tokyo, Japan; “The ultimate line” Solo Exhibition in 2020 in Kyoto, Japan; The Paris and Kyoto Joint Project “Savoir-faire des Takumi” in Kyoto, Japan.
沙織國廣
３歳頃から書道を学び、三代目の掛け軸作り職人に師事した国広さおりは、概念的な絵画を掛け軸の形式で制作し、日本の時代遅れの伝統に疑問を投げかけています。陳腐化した伝統を覆すべきだという物語を再取得することで、鑑賞者に自らの信念と伝統、それらをなぜ追従しているのかを問いかけます。国広さおりは多くの伝統的な書道展に出展し、日本・東京で行われた「ART SHODO FESTA 2020」、また京都での「The ultimate line」個展、そして京都で行われたパリとの共同プロジェクト「Savoir-faire des Takumi」にも参加しています。
Eugene Studio / Eugene Kangawa
b. 1989, USA. Japanese. Lives and Works in Tokyo, Japan
Known for his conceptual and self-reductive paintings and installations, his past exhibitions include EUGENE STUDIO After the Rainbow (2021-22) at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, de-sport: (2020) at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Shikkoku-Noh (2019) at the National Art Center, Tokyo, 89+ (2014) at the Serpentine Gallery, London. He is the youngest artist to have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, which has hosted solo exhibitions by some of the greatest Japanese contemporary artists in the past, including Yayoi Kusama and Yoko Ono. He currently has a solo show at Maki Gallery in Tokyo, open until August 5th, 2023.
ユージン•スタジオ/ 寒川裕人
寒川裕人（Eugene Kangawa、1989年アメリカ生まれ）による日本を拠点とするアーティストスタジオ。個展「THE EUGENE Studio 1/2 Century later.」（2017年、資生堂ギャラリー）や、完全な暗闇で執り行われる能のインスタレーション「漆黒能」（2019年、国立新美術館、シテ方・大島輝久）を開催。その他、「89+」展（2014年、サーペンタイン・ギャラリー、ロンドン）への作品提供、「資生堂ギャラリー100周年記念展」（2018-2019年）におけるイギリスの建築家集団アッセンブルとの協働、「de-sport」展（2020年、金沢21世紀美術館）への参加、アメリカを代表する現代SF小説家ケン・リュウとの共同制作『ALTER』（2017年）など。現在、短編映画2本（2021年、アメリカ、日本）が、パンアフリカン映画祭などアカデミー賞公認の映画祭を含む、複数の国際映画祭のオフィシャルセレクションに選出されている。
